- Profit per sale: what’s left after every cost and fee comes out.
- Profit margin: profit as a percentage of what the customer pays. It’s the number to compare across products.
- Return on product cost: how much profit you make for every dollar you spend on the product.
- Break-even price: the lowest price you can charge without losing money.
- Price for target margin: what to charge to hit the margin you set.
How Profit Is Calculated
Profit = what the customer pays − product cost − shipping − packaging − ads − marketplace fees − payment processing fees
Marketplace and payment fees are usually a percentage of the order total plus a flat amount per order, so they go up as your price goes up. That’s why the break-even price is often higher than sellers expect.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is My Data Saved Anywhere?
No. The calculator runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent or stored.
What Is A Good Profit Margin For An Online Store?
It depends on the product and how you sell it, but many sellers aim for 20% to 40% after all costs. Products with heavy ad spend or high return rates need more room.
Why Is My Profit Lower Than I Expected?
The usual culprits are fees and shipping. A price that looks like a 50% markup can shrink fast once marketplace fees, payment processing, free shipping and ad costs come out.
Should I Include Ad Spend In My Costs?
Yes. If you pay for ads, divide your ad spend by the number of sales it brought in and enter that as your ad cost per sale. Leaving it out makes products look more profitable than they are.
Are The Marketplace Fee Presets Exact?
No. They’re starting estimates for common categories. Platforms change their fees and charge different rates by category, plan and location, so check your seller account and adjust the numbers.
